Heavy Metal Titan – Jacob Burnett

My name is Jacob Burnett.

I work under the title of my long-time nickname, Titan.

Inspiration usually hits at the worst of times, such as when I am at my day job and have no access to my materials. It typically comes through music, whether it be something pertaining to the subject or not, the utmost of heavy music, something to dance to, or the quietest lullaby.

Sometimes a visual will spontaneously pop into my head with no influence and a snowball effect takes place. Recently, holiday themes have occurred just as often as the pop culture references, seeing as how these have just happened to be the events i have been a part of so far.

My childhood fears, in the most innocent sense of fearing the boogeymen and the dark, may not influence me as much as I give them credit for. I feel more influenced by the adoration for my interests, my lifestyle, and this beautiful city we live in. On the other hand, I have been influenced by bad childhood experiences. I have let the past get the best of me for most of my life.

Only recently have I overcame a lot of negativity and took my art into my own hands. I am more serious than ever before. You can be told that you won’t make anything of yourself being a starving artist only so many times before you prove that person wrong.

As an adult (and as an artist), I am quite afraid of being harshly critiqued or not “making it”. I have done well in the few events I have been a part of so far. I believe I have a bright future to look forward to. I think it is common to be your own worst critic, and I have to work hard and typically do things more than once before I am truly happy with what I have made.

I foolishly compare myself to other artists far and away more talented than me, but I need to remind myself that I have a very specific niche and style all my own. It took me a long time to realize that. This was another personal obstacle to overcome before I gained enough courage to be a part of the art community.

If there are any artists hesitant to be a part of our community, I would advise them to listen to their heart and go for their goals.
