Julia Ducournau’s first feature film, “RAW”, is unlike any coming-of-age film you’ve ever seen. Young Justine is following in the footsteps of her parents and older sister by going to veterinary school. Justine has been vegan all her life, but during a hazing ritual, the new students must eat a raw animal organ. A fire is lit within her, and soon she is craving much more than the meat of an animal. Yes, this film is gory (apparently, someone fainted during a screening at the Toronto Film Festival), but it is also beautifully crafted story about being an awkward teenager and discovering who you truly are.
